Syria’s equipment for
producing, mixing and filling chemical
weapons has been destroyed. By doing so, Syria has met the deadline set by the
OPCW (The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons) Executive
Council for “Complete as soon as possible and in any case not later than 1
November 2013, the destruction of chemical weapons production and
mixing/filling equipment.”
Now, since the weapons have been placed under seal and put
beyond use, Syria still has to destroy the chemical weapons themselves by mid-2014.
"I hope those who have always thought of us negatively
will change their minds and understand that Syria was, is, and will be always a
constructive partner," Syria's Deputy
Foreign Minister Faisal Mr. Mekdad said.
From his words, we can see the Syria government tries to be
friendly to the rest of the world and rebuild a better image. It remains to be
seen whether they will destroy the chemicals weapons by themselves.

ReplyDeleteI don't know much about Syria, so do you know why syria suddenly destroyed their chemical weapons? or is it planned before?
Thank you for sharing. :)

ReplyDeleteHi, Lynn. I think there are two main reasons.First, Syria has been forced by Western countries for a long time. It is afraid of being attacked by other countries. And recently, Syrian president Bashar and Vladimir Putin got an agreement that Syrian chemical nuclear weapons will hook to the Israel’s . That means if Syria agrees to destroy its chemical nuclear weapons ,Israel should destroy them as well.

ReplyDeleteSyria's news is often broadcasted in Japan, and the war inside the country is devastating. I am relieved, at least, they got rid of chemical weapon.

ReplyDeleteDestroying the chemical weapon cannot usher a new peaceful era for that suffering country. Its conflicts can never ceases if the interests grounps cannot negotiate a solution satisfying all what they want.
